My Belated 30th Birthday Present!!!
I went over to my sisters on Saturday night for dinner with a few mutual friends of ours. She asked me to come about half an hour early to “help” her get a few last minute things ready. We showed up, and I was helping to put together a grape and cheese tray………She asked me to get something from the back room.
When I opened the door, TA DAH!!!!!!!
There were 5 presents waiting for me. I love presents and was very excited. Mind you, I could already tell what one of the presents was, and figured that the others went along with it. It is kind of difficult to disguise a guitar case, and seeing as I didn’t own a guitar, then what good would a guitar case be without a guitar. Assumptions, Assumptions!
Yup, It was a guitar, and a strap, and a tuner, and some picks. Deb even told me, today, that they are paying to put a pick up in it. So it’s all very exciting…………. or at least it was until my fingertips started feeling like I had placed them on the stovetop burner. I guess I’m supposed to cultivate some “beauty callouses” on my fingertips…………I’m kinda hoping to avoid the whole blistering, weeping, pussing sores thing, and somehow skip straight to the callouses. Hmmmmmmm!
Well, I’m really happy – as you can hardly tell from the photo – and now comes the time and effort part of this endeavor. I have to learn or re-learn how to play. I remember a lot of the chording, and I don’t think that it will be difficult to learn any of the ones that I don’t know or remember. My challenge is to learn how to strum the really cool rhythms. I could probably rock the old school country songs, but……yah…..not so many people want to hear every song in the world strummed into “hickdom” another Kennedy word.
I’ve already played as much today as my finger tips will allow. Hopefully, tomorrw will bring some tougher fingertips with her so I can rock it out hard core! Or something like that…..hey, I can play just about any song in the key of D and as long as I get a capo, I should be able to transpose and play my little heart out. Never mind when the song sounds like I’m playing a ukelele because I’ve got it capoed up 7 keys. Hee Hee!
Until next time…………..

[...] On Friday, Pam and I left for the States. We were going to a Ladies Retreat that Pam was speaking at, and I was going to be her support, and to just generally help to lighten the load. Well, I ended up playing a 12 string guitar(I only just recently was given a guitar) with the lady who was leading worship at the retreat. Just me(guitar) and her(keys.) Pam told them that I could play, and told them to ask if I wanted to help them out. Oh, Yah, Sure! Sign me up! Well, I had just recently asked God if He had anything He wanted to say to me or the Ladies at the retreat, and He had just told me that “He would take us deeper and farther and higher than we’d been before – if – we were willing to follow Him past the walls that we’ve created, and away from those things that tie us down, and hold us back. Then He would take us out into the wide open space into freedom.” [...]
