Eating Candy until you Barf Day…..

Filed under: Family, Life, Too Cute — October 31, 2005 @ 10:27 pm

…..or other wise known as Halloween.

Yah, It’s come and gone, and we’re all still sane. My children are in bed, and asleep, and it’s only 9:00pm. I’d say that for Halloween night, we’re doing pretty good.

Now, I have to admit that they are all sleeping off candy-induced sugar low’s, and have probably slipped into a diabetic coma……but they are alseep, and that’s what really matters. Isn’t it?

Geli in her Mardi-Gras Mask, and last year's princess dress

They looked so cute in their costumes. Almost as cute as last year…no, wait a sec - they look exactly as cute as last year, because………..Last year we “frugally(is that even a word)” bought costumes that were way-too-big. And fortunately, this year, they still fit.

Kinda, Sorta, Almost makes me feel like a bad parent - that we would make our kids wear the same costume twice - but not bad enough to go and buy them a new one.

Ready to go

They had masks because their “stupid“(ooops, I said a bad word - sorry J!) school had a Mardi-Gras Theme.

MARDI-GRAS!

Seriously, do they not have any idea what Mardi-Gras is all about? Make a mask they say, and send your child to school with beads. Mardi-Gras for those un-informed is all about sex, and drugs and alcohol. You wear the mask so that no one knows who you are as you go about doing “it” with whoever, and the beads are an indicator of who how much you’ve done. The more beads, the more times you were busy doin stuff……..

Now, I don’t have a problem with Halloween, but I do have a problem with people not thinking things through. The Mardi-Gras theme was not well thought through. There were so many Ghosts and Goblins, and Vampires and Ghouls at the kids school today. In the 4 years that we’ve been going I’ve never seen it like that. They always had themes like “Under the Sea” or “In the Jungle.” You know, the themes that you are ready to kill the teachers for because you have to find specific costumes to send your kids to school in, but at least it cut out the ghoul-factor. Why parents would let their kids dress like that is beyond me. Ridiculous!

Frog Boy and his Papa

We went to my parents house tonight. They live in a town house complex, and I like the safety factor of no cars driving around, and it’s well lit. Just an all ’round happy, safe experience for Jon to take the kids out.

Yah, I’m the candy-giver, back at the house. There is no way that I’m going outside to walk around in the freezing cold following my kids from door to door as they beg for candy. Nope! Not happenning! Besides, someone has to be at home to welcome the cute little tiny Cinderella’s, and Butterflies, and Spiderman. The smaller they are the cuter. Not to mention watching through the peep-hole to see if some absolutely huge kids are still trying to scam candy off of you. I usually just open the door and scream “BOO!” Scares the crap out of them. Then they get like 1 sucker from the candy left over from last year. Seriously, if you’re taller than me…get a life!

After the kids came back, and checked out all their loot. We sent them out to the front yard to play with fire. Now that I think about it….in those incredibly not fire resistant costumes. WHAT WERE WE THINKING!!!!! Obviously - WE WERN”T!

But, I got some cool shots - and no one got burned to a crisp so we’re good for this year!

Now I just have to fiure out what to do with all the candy they brought home - AAAAAARRRRRGGGGH!

i came across ur blog and was upset about how refered to mardi gras, have you ever been? I have and yes there is sex and drugs and booze but that is not what its all about. you only see that on the news or “girls gone wild” yes at night there are parties on bourbonstreet, but during the day there are parades and great feasts put on by people in New Orleans, I have been there many a times and I think of N.O. s my home away from home. Mardi Gras is known as “Mardi Gras (French for “Fat Tuesday”) is the day before Ash Wednesday, and is also called “Shrove Tuesday”. It is the final day of Carnival and in New Orleans, Louisiana, because of its French heritage). It is a celebration that is held just before the beginning of the Christian liturgical season of Lent. The feast should not be confused with the Polish Fat Thursday. so yes it is a party, but it is NOT ALL ABOUT sex, drugs and booze. what about st.patricks day is that a day for drunks to drink and party? or is it the day us Irish to give thanks to our st.patrick who escaped salvery to become second bishop to Ireland.

well… I grew up there and a lot of people that live there leave the city to avoid the depravity. If you are careful, you can have a fairly clean time, but you’ve gotta be REALLY careful. What really brasses me off is that mardi gras is REALLY a day off to sin to your hearts content. That way you can get it out of your system before you have to fast for 40 days (lent). And what-the-hey, God’s gonna forgive you the next day anyway (ash wednesday). Even if there are “clean” festivities there, it doesn’t really lend itself to being a good elementary school theme. And next time if you want to post about the benefits of mardi gras, go start your own blog!

    Dear Anon,

I’d like to respond to your comments.

    1. Thank you for reading my blog. It’s nice that you would take the time to stop and read.

    2. Thank you for your comments. As you can see by my husbands post - He grew up there, and I think we have a fairly good idea about what Mardi Gras really is about.

    3. Thank you for the history lesson….even though I am quite familiar with the history behind Mardi Gras - maybe my readers aren’t.

    4. Thank you for sharing your opinion…..

HOWEVER….that is as far as my thanks goes,
BECAUSE….this is the first and will be the last ANONYMOUS comment that I will ever approve. If you don’t have the balls to at least put a name and proper e-mail address to your comments then - In my opinion they aren’t worth much and won’t be publicized.

ALSO, This is MY BLOG where I write MY OWN THOUGHTS, OPINIONS, and RANTINGS, and if you don’t like what I have to say - THEN DON”T READ!!!!!!!

BTW - I am Irish, and as much as St. Patricks day is a wonderful Irish Holiday with an amazing history. I still don’t send my children to school with kegs of beer.(We keep those at home to party with! - Because it is all about the drinking….Isn’t it?)
