It’s Not Over Yet
We have had a busy, busy weekend, and still have one more thing to go to tonight before it’s all over. Then it’s right back into a really busy week gearing up for an even busier weekend. AAAAGGGGHH!
Oh well! Better than being bored.
Jon decided to get crafty, and make paper mache masks with the kids on Thursday. They bought some balloons, and blew them up to the size of their heads. Jon made some paste – flour water, and salt. It was a little lumpy. Better re-read the instructions next time, babe!
It was funny becuase my “get down and get dirty” son would not have anything to do with it. It was too mucky! He was not impresed, and got Jon to make his for him. Geli and Xan were in heaven. Messes Crafts with Dad! This is one of the reasons why Xan said at the dinner table the other day, “Dad! You’re my favorite ’cause you play with us. Mom’s okay, but she works alot!” Thanks Xan! Maybe I’ll just stop doing laundry and cooking and cleaning and see how you like that.
Well, they covered the balloons, and then set them aside to dry. ‘Member I said that the paste was a little lumpy…..well, it was quite thick, as well, and it has taken the balloon thingys until today to dry. And they are not strong enough so they’ll have to put another layer or two on them. The kids are going nuts. They ask 40 times a day – Can we pop our balloons yet?
We’re teaching them patience!
Hmmm, Impatient Kids…..wonder where they get that from?
We had some meetings this weekend, and have had babysitters for the kids. Friday night the meeting started at 7pm, BUT Jon and I got our sitter for 4:45pm and…..and……are you ready for it???????? We went our for dinner, just the two of us! Do you have any idea how long it’s been since we did that? See, there are WAY too many planets that have to align in order for us to be able to do that. It was so nice. Not as nice as being able to plan a whole evening for ourselves, but nice that we had a meal out at a restauratnt with no kids, AND WE DIDN”T HAVE TO PAY!
See, Jon’s brother and sister in law went away back in January, and asked us to watch their kids over night. No problems, that what family does, right? We really weren’t expecting anything from them, but they came back and gave us a very generous gift certificate to a Greek Restaurant here in town. So very nice!
I even stayed on track with my “LIFESTYLE.” I had a steak with mushrooms, and a greek salad instead of rice and potatoes. It was delicious. Had a good meeting, went home, and then Saturday rolled around.
My sister came out with my other sister’s daughters, and watched my kids from 10am-3pm while we were in another session – no it’s not MLM – the kids had so much fun. They absolutely love Aunty Debbie. She took them into the forest behind our house, and there is a big hill. A. BIG. MUD. HILL. She showed them how to bum slide down (although my kids already knew how to do that – love it when those clothes come home…..sorry mom, we slipped – Yah Right you slipped!) the big hill. It took her some effort to convince my Koren student that this wouldn’t be a problem. He did it, eventually, but still wasn’t totally convinced that this was an okay thing. Along their way, they “found” some snacks hidden in the forrest. Can you believe it? It’s amazing what the forest fairies leave laying around these days! They collected some “special treasures” and came home and had lunch and even made crafts. Aunty Debbie even brought her puppy.
I’m so glad that my kids have special Aunties and Uncles that do fun and crazy stuff with them. I remember loving the times that I spent with my uncles and aunts. SO much fun!
Jun had a friend come over, and apparently, our house was a big hit. I had no idea what to make the kids for dinner, and Jon had to drive an hour away to pick up a work check so that we could pay rent, and we had no food…blah, blah, blah! I made a little bit of everything. Chicken Noodle soup, Kraft Dinner, Personal Pizzas, and Leftover Tortillas. Everybody got to pick what ever they wanted, and everybody was happy. So happy, that the friend wants to sleep over next weekend. Cool! Maybe now Jun won’t be so reluctant to invite kids over to our house! ‘Cause now we’re the “cool” family! Yipee!
We were totally boring and went to bed at 9:45pm last night(10:45pm when we changed the clocks for Daylight Savings Time), but it was so worth it when we woke up this morning and were still tired. Not as tired as we would have been had we stay up ’till midnight, and then set the clocks ahead.
We have one more meeting tonight, and our regular babysitter is coming over. After that we have to get ready for school tomorrow.
I have to plan the music, band, sound system, etc. for a Ladies Retreat this coming up weekend. I’m really hoping that it all pulls together. I mean it has to, but I hope that I don’t end up stressing too badly over it all. It’s not really worth it.
Oh, Dr. Shone’s office called and rescheduled our appt from Monday April 10th to Friday April 7th. Hopefully they have some answers for us! I’ll let you know as I know!
That about wraps it up for now. Hope you’ve had a great weekend!
