Talk about Commitment…..
Well, I took Jeremy to see my Naturopath today. Well, actually, I took him in for a Vega food test. When I talked to my NP about Jeremy, she recommended that before we do ANYTHING, that we get his food sensitivities tested, as well as his yeast and parasites.
That was about a month ago, and today was the big day. He was so nervous on the drive in. It’s so unlike him to be nervous and upset, that I was kinda shocked at how he was acting. He was pretty quiet, and kept complaining about a tummy ache. It wasn’t until we finally got into the office, and back into the room, and he saw the machine, and the tool they were going to use to poke him with, and the machine started squawking…….then……then he was fine. He was actually better than fine. He loved the machine, and how it would squeal when they put the tool to his hand.
I, on the other hand, was horrified at the sheer number of bottles that the tester was placing to the side. After the initial few minutes, she already had a HUGE pile of them sitting beside her. It was pretty scary. I mentioned that I figured that his yeast levels would probably be through the roof, and she seemed to brush me off, until she got to the yeast bottles. YUP! He is registering at a 10. That’s the highest level that they measure. If you remember, I was at a level 4 AFTER being on a cleanse for 2 weeks. She asked how I thought that he would be so bad, and so I told her about when he was baby. It took 4 months of conventional medicine to just get the thrush at bay in his system, and unfortunately it ran through his whole body, ’cause it came out the other end as a yeast diaper rash.
See, yeast is a problem. It messes with your body, affects your immune system, your absorption of nutrients, and makes you feel like crap in so many different ways. I am by no means an expert on this, I just know how much of a difference dealing with it (in my body) has made. We will eventually work our way through the whole family, and hopefully be a happier, healthier family because of it.
We didn’t actually get any medicine to kill the yeast, today, as he didn’t actually meet with the naturopath. This was just the foods test. He doesn’t get to meet with the Naturopath until April 19th. Almost a month away! YIKES! Well, hopefully by that time, I will have nailed down some specific questions in regards to his diet, and we can go from there. I’m hoping to even see some positive benefits just from changing J’s diet.
Like I said, his list of foods that he is Strongly intolerant to is HUGE:
Barley, Corn, Rice, Rye, Wheat, Cow’s Milk, Cheese and all related products, Egg Yolk, Apricot, Cherry, Lemon, Orange, Raspberry, Strawberry, Garlic, Green Peas, Mushroom, Olives, White Potatoes, Tomatoes, Almonds, Peanuts, Turkey, Clam, Crab, Lobster, Shrimp, Yeast, Chocolate, Fructose, Honey, Mustard, Sugar, vinegar, MSG, Dust, Mites, Feathers
The list of Mildly intolerant foods are:
Grapefruit, Soya Bean, Celery, Beef, Coffee, Pepper, Tea, Aspartame
There are a couple of funny and not so funny things about the foods on this list.
The not so funny things are
- that there is almost no milk that he is allowed to have. He can’t have cow’s milk or rice milk or almond milk or even soy milk. At this point, we have coconut milk, and goat’s milk.
- He can’t have rice, so no rice crackers or rice cakes or rice or rice noodles. Basically, he will be eating potatoes and quinoa for his starches.
- Corn is out too, which sucks ’cause I just found a really good tasting corn spaghetti.
The funny thing is that there are a bunch of the foods that he isn’t allowed to eat that he won’t eat. We could say that he doesn’t like them, but I wonder how much is personal taste, and how much is him actually knowing (even subconsciously) that they aren’t good for him or make him feel yucky. Things like the egg yolk. I’ve not made a huge deal out of it, but he refuses to eat egg yolk. Hmmmmmm!
This is going to take some getting used to, and a whole lot of effort on my part to come up with creative ways of working within and around his and mine known intolerances. I’m wondering if I should just stop buying milk altogether. The only ones who are drinking it are Geli and Jon, and they probably shouldn’t either. I am hoping that between the milk and cheese and other processed foods that I stop buying, if I can’t save some money to be able to get some of the more expensive natural things that he/we can eat. I figure that we’ll be eating a TON of fruits and veggies from the farm markets. That’s a good thing, right?
Wow! well, regardless of whether you want to or not, I’m sure that you’ll hear more about how this is going for us. It should be interesting, and difficult, and interesting…….

WOW what a list Patti,it is a good job he has such a good Mom who will be working to give him the proper foods . It sounds like he can have chicken , does he like it? I have thought of going for a test as I just cannot seem to get my energy back(maybe it is just old age catching up with me) It will be great and worth it all if it gives J the help he needs ,we will pray that it does. Have a good week end Love Grandma (just keep thinking about that little boy and praying for him )
