Yesterday’s Update
I went in yesterday to see Chris and to just hang out at the hosptial. We figured that he would be having his surgery, and just wanted to be there, just in case.
Well, before I had even left my house, I got a call that he had already had his surgery, and was headed into the recovery area. WOW! He was quite a ways down on the waiting list on Thursday, and to be bumped into the number 1 spot for Friday morning was nothing short of a miracle.
Nina and her friend were already at the hospital, and when I got there around 10:30am – 11am, he had just been brought back to the Trauma Unit.
I went in to see him, but he was quite agitated, and was feeling very uncomfortable, and no amount of shifting or repositioning seemed to helped. Nina and Erin were in there, and Aunty Sherry came to check up on him, and so I just went down to the waiting room/lounge ’cause I figured that there were enough people in there without adding me into the mix.
Nina and Erin stayed for a while, and then came out to get me. She was so tired, and decided to go home and take a nap. She is doing so well, and being so wise about her health. Not running herself ragged. So, I went in to see Chris around 11 am, and was there until shift change at 7pm.
He seemed to be in pain in waves. His knee was quite sore, and he complained mostly about it. But it seemed to come and go. We’d pull back the covers and look at it, and sometimes he wanted the pillow shifted ’cause he said that it felt like his knee was flexed backward. Then we’d cover it up, and continue talking about something else. We did that all day every couple of minutes. As long as you realize that it’s just something that he needs to do, complain about, and then it will pass, it’s not too upsetting. At the end of the day he said to me, “See what you’re getting yourself into.” I think he realizes that it’s a big job to care for him, and doesn’t want to be a bother. He even apologized to the nurse at one random point, and said that he was so sorry and he hoped he wasn’t being to much of a pain with all his problems and questions and issues.
We talked a lot about different things. I asked him about their trips to Cuba and the Dominican Republic. He talked about the beaches and Nina. I asked about their wedding, and he said that Nina was JUST SO BEAUTIFUL. He mentioned that she ALWAYS looks so good. He talked a lot about Nina, yesterday. He really wanted his bag and his wallet and his cell phone.Â
I think that he used his cell phone for an alarm clock, and when he finally seemed sleepy, I asked if he could go to sleep, and he wanted to know how he would know when to wake up. I told him that I could wake him up in an hour or so. That seemed to be okay with him, and he went to sleep for about 2 and a half hours.Â
I was able to run and move my van, and go and get a gestational diabetes test from the lab down the street (it takes an hour to do this test) and get back all before he woke up.
When he did wake up, like I said earlier, we would run through the routine with his knee every couple of minutes, but he talked and tlaked and talked. His heart rate was up higher than it has been, but the nurses didn’t seem too concerned. I think it’s just a side effect of the surgery. He did have a temperature later in the afternoon, and had to have some blood cultures done. We just need to pray that there is no infection stirring around his body.
We lookd at his pictures, and talked about his halloween costume from last year. I told him he needed to get better quickly so that he could help me to make some for my kids this Halloween. I told him that I sucked at sewing, and he said that it was so easy, and he could show me how. At one point in the day, and I totally forget what we were talking about, he said something to me absolutely deadpan. It kinda shocked me, and I looked at him. Then he pushed against my shoulder, and said, “I’m just joking!” I was so shocked. He had totally just joked with me, and I couldn’t even tell until after he told me. It was pretty funny! I laughed, and he just kinda smirked at me.
He worried about money quite a bit, and was visibly moved when I told him that God was providing for him and Nina, and that he didn’t need to worry about it. That everything was going to be taken care of. He croaked out a, “Thank you, God!”
When the pain in his leg got really bad, and I didn’t know what else to do, I asked if I could pray with him, and he said yes. He seemed to calm down after we would pray.
I would have to say that over all, yesterday was a pretty good day. He had his moments when he was frustrated with me ’cause I couldn’t understand him, but eventually we’d work everything out. Sometimes, he didn’t make sense, but then other time’s he was very sharp. He is remembering a lot of things, and even little details.
Keep praying for:
1. Increased Healing in Chris’s body
2. That the pain wouldn’t be overwhleming
3. That he’s be able to rest and relax so that he can get better
4. Pray that infection won’t have any place in his body
5. Pray for Nina for complete health for her body
6. Pray for Strength, comfort, peace and wisdom for everyone invovled in this situation
7. Pray for saftey as the family travels the drive into and out of Vancouver.
8. Pray for a sound mind for Chris and that his thoughts would organize quickly
9. Pray for peace of mind for Chris and Nina, and a knowing that God’s got them and their whole situation under control, and that He is taking care of every little detail of their lives, physically, financially, mentally, emotionally and every other way.
Thank you all for praying! You bless us so much!
