Debbie’s Update from Earlier Today

I went in and saw Chris today.

I arrived around 10:30 and he was getting his dressings changed. He seemed to be in good spirits. The nurse checked his record and said that when he went to VGH, they removed a stitch from in his knee that had gotten infected. Chris spoke to Dad on the phone and then we were going to head out.

He basically had breakfast and spent the whole morning getting re-bandaged. We left around 11:30, got some Bubble Smoothie and then wandered around the campus. At 1PM we made our way back and had lunch. He told me he hates it there.

I think that’s just cause he gets so bored. I was thinking that it must be hard for Chris. There is no one his age on that ward. Everyone is literally 50, if not 60 or 70, years older than him. So if anybody wants to stop by, I’m sure he would appreciate the diversion.

We’ve started leaving our cell phone numbers in Chris’ room if we go off of his ward. That way any visitors can phone whoever has Chris and we can meet up.

We played two games of checkers and Chris won both. I was really trying and even had more Kings than him at one point but he took over. He really thinks through the moves.

It’s nice to see him processing that.

Love you all. And trust me…We REALLY appreciate your prayers.

Debbie

  1. Uncle Dan:

Sher and I had a nice evening with Chris after we both got off work and met up at the firehall to drive in together. He sneaked a peak as we were coming in and said loudly and jokingly from behind the curtain “hey nurse” knowing full well it was Aunty Sherry. We asked Chris if he’d like to get out for a bit and of course hie eyes lit up. I was pleasantly surprised at how small an effort it seems for him now to get out of bed and into his wheelchair by himself.Of course he is an overcomer and all things are possible as we agree to believe with Chris for his restoration and continued healing. One mandatory trip to Starbucks ( I’m not for a minute suggesting that Aunty Sherry had anything to do about that)! Ya right! A cool drink for Chris and a lightning bolt for me and we were off zipping around the campus, Chris commenting on memories of various volleyball trips to the gym etc. with TWU and Team BC.We had quite a fun time watching a big black squirrel make a long journey away and come back every few minutes with another peanut to hide in the garden. Aunty Sherry couldn’t figure out why he wouldn’t just put them all in one spot!!! Now I’m thinkin (‘SHE WHO CAN’T FIND HER KEYS OR GLASSES’) on a regular basis should be glad she is not a squirrel or she’d surely have extremely high odds of starving to death as she forgot where the ‘MOTHER LODE’ was! At least this little guy would have a snack from each random find to the other. Who’s the genius here? Well we have overstayed our parking meter by alonggggg shot so back to a softer than the chair bed for Chris and we said good night. Hey no ticky!! PTL. That’s twice now. I guess we shouldn’t test our luck too often. Continuous prayers for Chris will be on our lips and within our hearts. Please pray as well every moment you feel or think about this wonderful young man. I know Chris is and will work hard to rehab himself each little bit each day.God alone can do the ‘impossible things’ that need to be done. I believe we need to pray specific prayers for Chris’s short term memory to be healed and restored and for freedom in his joints (elbow, knee, wrist, fingers, ankle and toes.)and strength to the the muscles surrounding them. As we have already seen so many times GOD IS FAITHFUL, it is our priviledge to bear the cross for a Husband, Son, Son in law, Grandson, Brother, Nephew, Grand Nephew, Cousin, Uncle and Friend when he can’t bear it himself. I love you Chris, Uncle Dan
