Josiah’s Update from Sunday August 12th
Well, I went in to Vancouver to the BIG hospital to visit my Uncle Chris for the first time.
He’s a pretty cool guy, but BOY do they have him hooked up to a ton of machines and tubes and stuff.
He’s doing pretty good, and it was nice to finally meet the guy…..I mean, he can’t be that bad with such a cool name as Christopher….I mean, it’s not as great as Josiah, but it makes a pretty great middle name.
He even got to cuddle me for a minute, although when Momma asked if he’d like to, he wasn’t too sure how it would work out with only one arm, but Momma knows that one arm is all you need especially if you have a whole ton of other stuff to do or take care of.Â
Besides, I’m so tiny and hardly weigh anything, that cuddling me is so much fun.
See us in that picture, our jammies almost match, only Uncle Chris’s had snowflakes, and mine had little trains.
We cuddled for a while, but then I poo’d, and Uncle Chris felt the thunder…..I am a true man…even if I am small.Â
Momma took me ’cause I started to fuss a tiny bit, and she was worried about me causing a commotion.Â
The nurses had already commented on the LARGE party happening in Uncle Chris’s room. I didn’t realize that my family and Papa Mark and Nana Karen, and Uncle Chris made a large party, but apparently we do…….ROCK IT OUT, Y’ALL!Â
We’re a partay!!!
Momma changed my diaper and then fed me, and once I was all happy and ready for some more cuddles, she gave me back to Uncle Chris so she could get some pictures of us together. I don’t see what the big deal is, but she’s always takin’ pics of me with people.  I guess I’m just so cute.
It was amazing to see Uncle Chris move all the fingers on his left hand “cause Momma said that he didn’t used to be able to do any thing with that hand at the beginning when he first had the accident. Now, he held Momma’s hand so tight, and she almost could have cried, ’cause He’s just doing so much better than he was, and she said that it’s just unbelievable that he’s come as far as he has, knowing that he’s still a long way off from how much better he will get.
Momma says he’s on a butt load of antibiotics (whatever that means), all I know is I think I really like the guy.Â
Momma also says that we could still use every one’s prayers. This is a long, and hard road, and it can feel like it’s taking forever. She said that sometimes you have to fight discouragement (and I don’t even know what that means) and that it’s always so nice to hear encouraging things from those who are praying and standing strong especially when you aren’t feeling so strong yourself.
So, if you have anything to say, please leave a comment or send an e-mail. It’s so nice to know that other’s are still praying for and with us.
Momma said to tell you that you could pray for Uncle Chris that all infection would be gone from his body, and that his bones would heal, and that he would regain even more mobility in his arm and leg.
Pray for his mind to work exactly the way God intended it.
Pray for Peace and Strength, Wisdom and Comfort for both Chris and Nina.
Pray for Mark & Karen and Jyrki & Marja as they walk through this as the parents of Chris & Nina…..It’s so hard to see your kids hurt, and to not be able to take way the pain.
Pray that there would be a sense of encouragement surrounding everyone and everything in regards to this situation.
Thanks so much!
Josiah Christopher Culley
ps…..if ya get a chance, I’m sure my Uncle would love to have visitor’s. He back at VGH, and up on the 7th floor looking out over False Creek. Talk to ya soon.

What fun Alanna and Courtney had today…in between using Chris’s walker and wheelchair between them and taste testing lunch(plus any food left laying around the room)and pushing Chris out onto the terrace in a gale force wind…well it left Chris pretty much in need of a nap!! By the time we got him back to the room he was yawning and looking longingly at his bed(that Alanna had reluctantly vacated!)I wonder if he slept through dinner? I’ll see you tomorrow Chris, and don’t worry, I’ll leave the ‘children’ at home…we love you.

Hey well i saw chris again yesterday.
it was so much fun to talk to him just like old times. i havent hung out much with anyone this summer but i can honestly say that seeing him the times i have, have been the best part of my entire summer (sorry courtney =P)Me and courtney did ‘physio’ with chris and it was good, he must have taken lessons from grama kennedy because he has mastered the one leg thing (as he is just getting used to bending his knee more and more) very very well, granted his walker it a lot more high tech and youth full than gramas little grocery shopping basket one but never the less he is doing great!
We went out on the patio, ‘terrace’ as VGH so proudly calls it and had the hurricane winds, as my mom proceed to take pictures of my sisters hair blowing in the wind, she managed to get a few great action shots of chris’ IV tubes whipping around in the tornado.
i love you chris and cant wait till your better

I went to high school with chris and went to visit him yesterday. I must say I was impressed with his sense of humour and with how well he is doing. Keep fighting Chris, you are doing GREAT!

Congradulations Josiah, you have picked some pretty good parents. And those older kids that you let be your brother and sisters are pretty special too !! Just don’t let your sisters get to carried away with the dress up thing. If they do, just poop, you’ll be back in mommas arms in secounds. Ask your Dad, he does it all the time.
Josiah, your just like me, the youngest. You’ll have it pretty good because Mom and Dad have finished with all the expirementing on the other kids. Just remember these words, ” Jeremy told me to do it”. It’ll get you out of a lot of “situations”
And Josiah, if your brother or sister want you to go outside and play a game using a piece of wood and a sharp pointy thing called a dart…. stay far away, very very far away.
Bye for now, hope your not to big before I can actually visit with you, Uncle Wayne and Aunty Lori

I actually found out about this by the facebook group, but I’m still around checking to see how Chris is doing, and he and his wife are still on my prayer list, and will continue to be! It’s great to see the encouragment of new life in your family, after all the discouragment of one almost ending. But praise God that it didn’t end, and Chris is still able to fight and get stronger every day!
Blessings from Edmonton…

OK…so this is a very small world. First of all, just wanted to say Hi to Chris…just found out through the grapevine about everything that has been going on. It’s been a few years since your visits to the TWU Sports Therapy when I was the head therapist there…hopefully your volleyball career with Pike and the boys finished out well. Just know that I will uphold you in big time prayer…keep working hard Chris. I know you and your work ethic from TWU volleyball days, so I know that you will get stronger EVERY DAY. DO NOT GIVE UP! Secondly, I went to highschool with Jon! He may have been a couple years behind me, but one can never forget that energetic red head! I may have to dig out some old PA photos of Jon and Jason Alexander! So congrats Jon and Patti on the birth of Josiah…how amazing is God’s faithfulness.
