Momma’s (Karen’s) Update from Aug 21st, 2007
It has been a while since I have updated you on how Chris is doing. He is coming along. Praise the Lord.
Â
Now is such a waiting time. He has been on the antibiotic treatment and will be on it until Sept 10th. But all the results have come out good from the blood tests , hearing tests and the eye test, (which last time we discovered really has more to do with ‘something’ that controls the balance center, and that is what they are monitoring each week.)
Chris has only two times a day when he is not hooked up to the IV. A short time around lunch time and then again around the dinner hour. This is very precious time indeed. Chris can move around his room unattached, He gets to get out of his room. He has journeyed around the hallways. With company he has made it to the Cafeteria, the computer center, Star bucks, Wendy’s/Tim Horton’s, Red Robin’s and had several trips around the near by walk ways for fresh air or just sat outside on the front step.
Although the days are long, it seems like there are so many things to keep at each day.
The wound care specialist came yesterday and said the wounds on the grafts are healing up and he was very pleased with how things were progressing. He said they can keep them clean but the body was created to do the healing when he eats the right foods.Â
Everything is looking better and with in a week, more bandages should be able to be removed. He is now doing a daily walk-hop up the hall and back. He is bending his knee more. He also has To keep the mobility in his hand and fingers and leg and foot. This is constantly working at stretching and doing exercises. He is still not weight bearing on his left leg and will not be until after September 10, which would be the earliest….Â
I am not sure when they will do another x-ray to determine how the bone is healing. We asked the nurse if they could tell how the infection was healing, she said the anti biotics are doing what they are supposed to be doing.
Some of his friends came in to see him today… I just want to say thank you so much.Â
Thank you to everyone who has taken time to visit and encourage Chris. Thank you and God bless you.
Today His dad and I were having supper in the cafeteria with him. After, when the time had come to get hooked back up, we ran into the man from G. F. Strong’s who had evaluated him and has been keeping a watch on Chris. He talked with him a while and asked him several questions.
He said it was very unusual for the infection to need the three different antibiotic but it was a very bad infection. We told him Chris was on the anti biotics until Sept 10th and then I asked if there was any way they could have a spot available at G. F. Strong’s at that same time.  He said he would certainly look into that and try and arrange it. That was very encouraging. It will be so good for Chris to begin the rehab part of things.
Yesterday Chris was telling someone how good it felt not to be not just recovering from surgery or feeling so sick with the infections but to actually sstart feeling like there was some progress. There are still more surgeries ahead for his arm and his jaw and also he needs some front teeth. So we are praying for the right time and strength for all that is ahead.
We thank you again for all your prayers and support. We are praying as they continue this healing time that not only will their bodies be healed but that God will continue to work in their hearts and lives, drawing them closer to Himself, meeting all their needs, strengthening them and filling them with His peace and love.
It is so wonderful to know God will never leave us or forsake us. It is such peace to know that we can trust God. And that what He says He will do.

Hi I always keep up with Chris’ updates but I heard about his teeth. My brother was in a very bad accident two years ago and lost/ broke his teeth, but he had an amazing dentist work on his mouth… replace/repair etc. And this Dr. has experience with ICBC claims. He really did wonders because you would never know that Michael had no front teeth. Do you have a Dr? Would you be interested? He is in Surrey/Delta boarder just e-mail if you would like his number…

Hi Chris!
It has been some time since i last wrote you here… i have had a busy summer here in the Kootenays and just recently became a Grandpa for the first time! God is Good!!!
As i look into the eyes of my precious little grandson i am once again amazed at God’s goodness and love. When we experience love first hand as a father or grandfather…(goes for mothers and grandmas too) we get just a small taste of the incredible unsurpassing love Our Heavenly father has for each one of us. You no doubt experience the love of your parents and grandparents on a daily basis and i am sure during these past days and months of healing you have experienced God’s love like never before.
May you be encouraged this day to keep pressing on..
“Chris.. press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called you heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Phil.3:14 {slight adaptation mine}
So while the goal ultimately is that day we will all spend eternity with Him…another goal is still within reach… that is for healing, strength, Peace, Joy, and so much more for you.
Chris God lay you on my heart from the moment i first heard of your accident from my sister, your Aunty Sherry… you have been in my prayers every day since… i cant explain it… only God knows…. even though you dont know me isnt it great that His love makes us FAMILY!!
Keep up the good fight buddy.
Seeing as Sherry,my sis, is your Aunty it only makes sense that i am
Uncle Randy
God Bless
I follow your progress regularily here and through Sherry.

Thanks Randy for the encouragment. It is so good to hear from you. Chris is doing well. He is getting stronger every day. It is amazing to see how the body was created to heal and how with God’s help Chris’ is doing so at a more remarkable pace. His regeime of anti biotics is on the count down now. We are so pleased. Chris has managed to keep strong through this time. I marvel at his steady pressing on….
His reports from the tests they are taking each week to monitor him are all very positive and for this we are thankful. ON friday I was talking with a Doctor and he was saying that if everything contiues the way it is going and if things work out the way they are trying to get them…. when Chris finishes his anti biotic on the 10th He should go straight to G.F.Strong’s rehab. We are in contact through the O.T. at VGH with them and they are keeping a watch on Chris… so ‘the plan’ is a bed will be available for Chris…. Everyone one is looking forward to things going this way. We are looking for this as well. But we also know that God is the Master Physician on this case and He will take care of the details as we look to Him in all things. We appreciate everyone who has prayed and kept in touch. God bless you all. Love Karen

Chris was doing good on Saturday. We played cards and had coffee with Jon, Geli, Xandra and even Ben Kennedy came out. I taught Chris a new card game and he kicked my butt. I thought for sure I would win.
We tossed the ball back and forth, I practiced my wheelchairing(while throwing the ball) we made quite a ruckus. Sorry Dad, too bad you weren’t there to tell us to settle down. Oh well. We didn’t get told to calm down or anything.
After, we made a giant tower of plastic cups and put them in the way of the nurse so that when she came in to change the IV she would have to knock them over, but she was very aware and avoided crashing out tower. (Much to our dissapointment.)
When we walked down to the food market and walked around the mall, Chris couldn’t believe all these people who could walk were taking the elevator. We definately take things as precious as walking for granted sometimes.
Chris is excited to be moving on to GF. Hopefully Monday. I was so shocked when He showed me he could bend his left leg almost to 90 degrees. That is such great progress.
Thank you for your continued prayers for Chris, Nina, and this family as we all walk through this journey.
Much love, Debbie
Chris has had the greatest view during this last month and a half. If Patti has time maybe she’ll put it up. (Patti I know you have lots of things going with that baby of yours so no worries if you don’t get them up.)
