Update from February 7th from Momma
Things are going quite well. Chris is coming along.
He is able to move his left arm now… it is so very tight as his tendons and muscles have not been used in over 9 months. So now there is many things needed to be accomplished… not only to keep things mobile until the time when his muscles fire up and start working but also to prevent scar tissue from blocking the progress until he is strong enough to work against it. He is working hard.
He has had a continuous motion machine for the last three weeks and today picked up another machine that will work on the stretching of his tendons and muscles so he can turn his arm and hand up and open. He has another machine that will work on stretching his arm out to a full extension… these machines work on the slow gentle stretch and ‘rip’ method that will promote new growth in the tendons and muscles as they work his arm to restore what was lost.
This is the arm they were going to cut off…( I know I keep saying it but it is a miracle and I am so thankful.). It is wonderful to see him lifting a three pound weight and be able to get it up to touch his nose. He has many appointment’s still. Both to do with his arm and hand. His leg and foot and also all the facial stuff. There are three different parts to restoring his face and jaw. The plastic surgeon, to do with all the skin and soft tissue stuff. The oral surgeon who will be part of when they break his jaws and reset them and the orthodontist who is preparing the teeth alignment and all that to have it ready when they jaw and face gets done… then after that they will work on the implanting of the three missing teeth. It is a lot of appointment.
They have told us it could take 2-3 years to accomplish this. But we are quite encouraged as things seem to be moving along quicker than they told us…. Only time will tell what is happening.
His leg bone has not healed the way it should but they are not sure yet if they will need to do a bone grafting surgery and then they are looking toward summer to do surgery and rebuild his left foot. All in all he is doing really well. His head has cleared so much and he is a pleasure to have around. He doesn’t complain though I know from things he has said.. it is not an easy road.
I am looking to take a break again. We have another trip to Fiji at the end of February. It is a miracle I will be going. My Folks and I will be going back to the little village we were in last year. And there are several other villages we will be working in. When you live in the village with the locals and eat what they eat it is very different than living at the resorts….life is so simple and there is so much to do…….. but I love it. Pray there will be wonderful opportunities to show God’s love and to share Jesus with them.
So I will get a ‘rest’ of sorts…… also this will be a good time for Chris to actually do for himself. (he is quite independent now) He is able to think things through by himself. And is doing amazingly…. I am only helping him when he wants it..(if I can keep myself from interfering too much.…)
I have read some of the report the Doctors wrote and that he can think and process logic at all is an amazing miracle. Considering the injuries they had recorded and specialists reports on a prognosis …it was very bleak…. I am so thankful to God for the miracles he is doing. All praise and glory to Jesus and many thanks to Him those who have prayed and stood with us through this time.
