Bones, Bones, Bones

Chris went in and visited the Bone Dr. today. The Doc said everything is coming along nicely.

They actually have a thinner rod and beads inside of the bone which is good but, Chris will still need to be non weight bearing for another 4 weeks at least… maybe longer. So he’ll be rocking out the crutches for a while yet. I am trying to convince him that he should get a wheelchair and then maybe we could pimp the sucker out….slam it on the ground….add some neon lighting to the undercarriage….maybe get some bass speakers and add a sweet sound system to it….maybe the bass vibrations could actually propell the thing forward and Chris wouldn’t even need to push with his arms, he could just turn up some music really loud…..although there’s not a whole lotta bass in that Indie music that Chris enjoys……so that might not works so well.

We’ve included some pictures of Chris’s leg for your viewing pleasure. ‘Cause we all know how much pleasure there is to be had by viewing some bones and Chris’s well formed Calf muscle. Anyhooooo, The small metal circles at the top are where they meshed the knee together. The small metal flicky things down by the break are where they attatched the nerves and blood vessels together. Chris says they clamped all the loose ends….so blood will be diverted other ways.

The small flat staples in the skin can be seen where the incisions were made to insert the screws.

I actually think that this is all quite cool looking. It’s like being able to see inside his very soul…..or…..his leg….

Chris was quite the lesson for several of the student nurses today. They wanted to hear his history and all about what had happened. It’s quite the story when you start to run through all of what’s happened. Chris is a living miracle.

Also today, two of the nurses had worked with Grandma and Grandpa K 30 years ago.. when they were in the burn unit. The nurses were talking about Grandma and Grandpa and remembering how nice they were. They were happy to hear they had done so well after they had left the hospital.

They hardly ever hear how their patients have done when they’ve left the burn unit and they only see them during the traumatic timse and most stories don’t have very happy endings.

It was nice to be able to tell them that Grandma had lived and been able to take care of her own place and enjoy her grandchildren and even great grandchildren for many years after.
